STAR | SORT | DIVE The Special Tactics And Response Team (STAR) is a specialized unit of the Russell County Sheriff's Office. This is an 8 person specialized team. One of the tasks of the STAR team is to provide special response deputies to the county detention center. While 99.5% of all officer and inmate interaction can be dealt with using presence and positive dialouge, the other 0.5% requires that we must train for and be prepared to handle these situations in a professional, responsible and efficient manner. This requires a team of officers, both men and women, with the specialized training, skills and equipment to handle these situations. This helps to ensure the safety, integrity and security of inmates, officers and the physical jail.
